Firstly what is the make/model of Motherboard??

Does it allow over 100fsb, etcetcetc, it should be feasible to get to 550mhz, but the question is is it worth it?

You can sell the MoBo and CPU on Ebay and buy another MoBo/CPU without breaking the bank...................

Overclocking PC is really not for everyone. It is quite dangerous as you have heard. It costs more at the end than buying a new faster processor.

If you remain content with your K6-2 all these years, you really shouldn't overclock.

Hmmm... Whats wrong with overclocking a old k6-2? Its old and not worth very much so u don't have much to lose by OC it. Just add a fan for extra cooling.

Your problem, as I see it, isn't too slow a CPU, it's not enough RAM...you should upgrade to at least 256mb, not more than 512mb with Win98....I just wrote this in another post...

K6-2's aren't great overclockers, but they don't suffer from the overheating probs of modern CPUs. As long as you have a decent HSF with thermal material in between, you'll be fine...case fans aren't necessary, but they won't hurt. Your PSU should do an adequate job of venting your case.

Don't be surpised if you don't get much out of it though...maybe 550mhz...600mhz if you're extrememly lucky...chances are you'll have to raise the vcore. You're probably at 2.2v...I wouldn't go higher than 2.5v...& don't jump right to it...go 0.1v at a time & ONLY if your system becomes unstable after the overclock...

Here's a trick...setting the multiplier at 2.0x will give you a 6.0x multiplier...this trick only works for the K6-2.

One other thing, don't lower the FSB & raise the multiplier just to get a higher speed CPU, that defeats the purpose...the higher the FSB, the faster your system will be. If anything, you'll wanna lower the multiplier & raise the FSB. For instance...4.5 x 112 FSB = 504mhz

Got to let go. Have you checked out the PC133 pricings lately? They are the same as DDR PC2100 and PC2700. Move on with technology.
