I'm building my first computer and I'm interested in OC'ing my cpu from 2100 to 2700. My mobo is an Asus A7N8X 400 FSB w/ nForce 2 and my heatsink is a brand new ThermalTake Volcano 9. I know very little, as I've JUST started all my buying and building. I've read as much as I can, but nothing can compare to experience, which someone who reads this will have. Any help is well appreciated.

The 2100+ runs at 1733MHz (13 x 133MHz/266FSB). Your PC2700 RAM is designed to run at 166MHz (DDR333), so you could try raising the CPU FSB up to 166MHz. That would put your CPU speed at 2167MHz which is equal to a 2700+. Chances are, you'll have to increase the CPU voltage a little, but you won't know until you try.

Athlon XP 1800+
8.5 x 200MHz
1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Alrighty, thanks a ton. I'll get on here and let ya know how it went once I actually get all my components and put them together.

If you haven't bought all the parts yet...get a different CPU (Athlon XP 2500+ mobile) & PC3200 RAM, then you can overclock to 2.5GHz

I've finally got everything in and tonight I will begin building it. I don't expect that everything will simply fall into place, and you mentioned that I may have to increase my cpu voltage a little, jam. Just for future reference, let's say I will have to. How much should I initially increase and (if that doesn't work) what size increment should I increase it after that?
