Hello all, I'm thinking of having a go at overclocking my system(hopefully without welding anything together in the process). I ran Everest to see what it was currently running at and it came up with:
External clock 133mhz
Maximun clock 2133mhz
Current clock 1533mhz
Does this mean I have 600mhz to play with. As you can probably tell by this question I am very new to this. Could someone tell me if I could overclock it would it actually be worth it. Basically in my newbie eyes could I tell the difference that my system is running any faster. These are the stats for my system:
AMD Athlon 1800+
Gigabyte GA-7VKMP
Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8375 ProSavageDDR KM266
CPU Speed:
CPU Clock 1539.77 MHz
CPU Multiplier 11.5x
CPU FSB 133.89 MHz
Memory Bus 133.89 MHz
DIMM 1 256 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-6 @ 133 MHz)
DIMM 2 256 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz)
Typical Power 44.0 - 64.0 W (depending on clock speed)
Maximum Power 48.5 - 74.3 W (depending on clock speed)

Any ideas on this will be gratefuly appreciated.

Yeah you could overclock it and get some extra preformance out of it. But if you want to overclock it to the max like Everst says you can then you will need a nice heatsink and fan for your processor and some good airflow coming in and out of you in your case by adding a front and rea 80mm case fans is you don't already have them in your system already.

You're not gonna get too much outta that old board. It's based on the VIA KM266 chipset with onboard video & has no PCI/AGP lock. FSB is where the performance is & without that lock, the max safe FSB will be 150MHz...beyond that, the PCI bus is too far outta spec. Chances are, your PC2100 RAM will hold you back anyway...your max FSB will probably be about 145MHz.

I've got my 1800+ running at 1680MHz at 210MHz (420FSB), but my mutiplier is unlocked & I have a board based on the nForce2. It's not much of an overall CPU overclock, but the difference between 133MHz (266) & 210MHz (420) is definitely something you can "feel". Besides the number 420 is near & dear to my heart ;) LOL
