hi!

i own a pc with this specs:

althlon xp 1800+
volcano 7 heatsink
soltek sl-75drv5 mainboard
kingmax 256mb of 333 ddr ram cs 2.5
a casing with 350watt with 6x cooler fan

currently i manage to overclock it to 2000+ without unlocking its multiplier. the temperature of my cpu is around 48c to 52c.

1) i would like to know how far can i go with althon xp 1800 without unlocking its multiplier

2) is the temperature of my casing which is around 48c to 52c consider high? what is the acceptable range of temperature for an overclocked athlon xp 1800?

3) how much difference in temperature can i see in adding a system exhaust blower which sucks out the hot air from the pc? shopuld i add more fan?

I’m curious: when you say that you’ve overclocked to 2000+, do you mean you’ve cranked the FSB so that your CPU is actually running at 2000MHz?

If so, I’m impressed! At http://overclockers.cssftware.com/cpudb/Showamd.cfm the fastest was 2460MHz and the average 1749MHz. Most used water cooling.

If not, what do you mean?

If, while overclocking, you are using a Volcano 7 and getting temps in the 48 – 52 C range, you are doing excellent with thermal control. The acceptable range according to AMD is 10 degrees below the max, which for this CPU is 90 C.

I don’t know what effect adding an extra fan will have but it generally won’t hurt. Also, make sure you have thermal paste between your CPU and the Volcano and not the tape that comes with the Volcano.

100 mhz over what it should run. What's the point? At 1500 mhz you don't see the difference.

Just keep going up until it gets too hot or unstable. The whole point of overclocking for most people is to squeze the most out of your system that it will give. So even if you only get it up 100MHz, you still acomplished something.

Hi!

I own an AMD 1800 too
with ... a Soltek DRV5 too.
my CPU cooler is a GlobalWin TAK58

Actually, I'm running at 1600 with 138x11.5 (1587 in fact) but it don't seem to want to run faster.
The CPU is 39°C.

What are your settings ?

Thankz
Vignot

I connected my L1 bridges to unlock my Athlon XP 1800 with foil (very clean) but my motherboard doesn't have any settings for clock multiplier. The only way I can overclock is by FSB, but just increasing to 140MHz makes my keyboard not work. I have an ECS VTA3 v2.0 motherboard and I think I can't overclock beecause of my motherboard. Any ideas?
