Comment:
hey, i have a AMD64 3000+ i want to squeeze a little more out of. i am looking to overclock it but do not know how and most certainly do not want to kill it. i have stock cpu cooling with a case intake and a 2 fanned psu.
im wanting to oc to atleast 2ghz or maybe 2.2 i am currently running at 1.8
ram- ddr 400 4x512mb Mobo- gigbyte GA k8n prol sli i have a pretty crap case that dosnt do anything much for cooling. though its not tht bad.
at idle my cpu runs from about 35-38*c and at full load (tested with stress prime) under 100% load around 46-47*c (based on a 20min test) it went to 47 and then back down to 46. what is the highest safe temp for my cpu to be at?
okay i have just learnt that to raise my cpu freq higher, i have to lower my HT bus. so whats the best combination of cpu freq and ht bus speed.. thanks
its really whatever works out best for you..you generally want the HT to be as close to 1000 as possible..
for example: with a 250 mhz cpu frequency, and a 4x HT multiplier, you would still be at 1000MHz HT..bear in mind that you would also need to set a RAM divider or you probably won't be able to get it to POST..depending on how hot it gets, you may want to invest in a better case, or at least mod yours for better airflow..although my 3000+ at 2.5GHz is only 5-7 degrees warmer than stock, but YMMV
You won't kill your CPU if you don'y change the Vcore, and you can safely rase .1v to 1.5v. I think you could easily get 2.2 Ghz at stock voltage.
I wouldn't really worry about temperature. You might be able to raise it 2.4 Ghz without chaning your vcore. See if you can get it to post with the HTT Above 220. I could barely get mine to post at 213 mhz. That is with HHT x3 and like 2:1.5 divider. Spread spectrum disabled.
Exact same board and CPU I have.
The weird thing though, I could get the FSB up to 267 @2.4 GHZ with clock gen. 10 hour prime95 tested stable. Max Load temp 45 C... I don't know why it won't post.
Maybe the 70 C northbridge temp???
WHat is you Mobo Temp?
Venice 939 3000+ 1.8 GHz up to 2.4 with clockgen in windows, only got HTT to 213 in bios... with Spread Spectrum locked.
TMP-Man from what i know n the board top cat and i have there is a northbridge, though it is only passivly cooled so its a bit of a bummer. thannks for all your replys they have been a great help. i succsessfuly oced to 2.2ghz with no change in temp at all. i saw that some of you got it a bit higher then that? what settings did you use? i might give it a go lol :) thanks again
Most A64 boards use a single chip solution, so technically there is no northbridge. I don't know where you're getting the temp reading from but there's always the possibility that the reading is false. If it's from the BIOS, check the GigaByte website to see if there are any BIOS updates...read the descripts to see if any of them fix temp reading errors
