DSE = Dick Smith Electronics

There are several DSE Scoop 2400+ systems but they all appear to use the same motherboard...an ASUS A7S8X-MX. I'm sure you must have gotten a manual with it...did you look it over? Pay particular attention to the section on BIOS settings.

What is it that you hope to achieve by ovreclocking? As I see it, if you want better performance, you need more RAM...you should have a minimum of 512MB. If possible, add another 512MB to the 256MB you have to bring your total up to 768MB. And if you wanna be able to play games, you need a "real" video card...onboard graphics suck for gaming.

Here's a link to your board:

If you don't have the manual, you can download it here:

I just had a look at the manual/BIOS section & it doesn't appear to have any overclocking options at all. It's basically just a low-end/budget board that wasn't designed with performance in mind.

I suggest you just add more RAM & install an AGP video card. If DSE is where you buy your stuff, the video card choices are slim. The 6600 & 6600GT are too expensive. The 9550SE & Asus V9520-X are relatively cheap, but they both use 64-bit memory...they're definitely a step up from the onboard video though. But if you have the money, the one to go with would be the 9800SE:

If you shop online, you should be able to beat those prices. If you want something cheap but with decent performance, look for a 9550 w/128-bit memory...if you want a little more power, look for a Radeon 9600XT.

ASUS A7N8X-X
Athlon XP 1800+
8.5 x 200MHz
1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP2

If you want to add a lot of RAM and a big bad graphic card, shouldn't your motherboard be a bit better ? ie, support AGP 8x, and or even be PCI-Express ?

I suggest only to get another 256 or if you really want tyo spoil yourself, a 512 MB. don't get 1 GB because it'd be a waste unless you're doing really heavy calculations with that PC (which I doubt since you have a sempron).
