Thanks

You should be able to hit 550 without any trouble...possibly even 600...but you won't see any noticeable performance increase & you may encounter stability problems. But you can try these settings:
Jumper 3 @ normal (pins 1-2)
Jumpers 4-6 @ either 5.5 (off/off/on)
or 2.0 (on/off/off)** the K6-2 will read the 2.0 setting as 6.0
Jumpers 7-10 @ 2.8v (on/off/off/off)
or 2.9v (on/off/off/on)** increase voltage to 2.9v if system is unstable due to overclocking to 600...don't do it if it's not necessary. In other words, if it's stable at 2.8v, leave it be...higher voltage means higher CPU temp.
Jumpers 12-15 @ 100Mhz (off/on/on/on)

Thanks,
So should I just leave it and just get another puter? I dont think I can upgrade the processor on this board. I am just wanting some more speed for games and stuff. But if heat is the problem (no Extra money for extra fans etc.) I dont want to fry it for the kids sake they just want to play a little faster thats all.
Thanks again for the quick reply.

I didn't say dump the computer...I'm just saying that in your case, overclocking won't make any perceiveable difference. You can give it a try though & see what happens. The K6-2 doesn't have the heat problems that the Duron/Athlon have, but I just wanted you to be aware that "overvolting" will raise the CPU temp. Anyhow, you're running at a reasonable speed & have plenty of memory. To get the games to run better, maybe a video card upgrade is in order? What do you have now? Also, the soundcard can be a drag on gaming...especially if you an older ISA card.

It Has Onboard Graphics. 8MB Trident Blade3/D MVP4 (63)
I ran across alot of people who have tried to install a pci card on the 7478 but had trouble with disabling the onboard and just ran into alot of problems I would like to do that but again the bottle neck would be the pci card as there is no AGP.
Thanks Jam for your help.

I'm not familiar with your disabling problem, but there must be a jumper or a setting in the BIOS for that.
There are plenty of decent PCI cards available & upgrading should make a huge difference in gaming. You don't have to get "cutting edge"...you can get a 32 or 64mb Geforce 2 PCI card cheap on eBay.
Good luck.

email compaq consumer support ask how to disable onboard video. i have 2 compaqs i am trying to upgrade.they gave me step by step instructions.
