Product: AMD ATHLON
Comment:

Hi expert,
I built the PC in 2003, since then it been running pretty good, and it got
AMD ATHLON XP +1800
Memory 512 MB DDR
64 MB AGP
1st HD Master Hitachi 80 gig
2nd HD Slave Maxtor 40 gig.
Right now question is that how do I over clock the CPU ATHLON XP+1800?
Is there any successful possibility to over clock my system?
Thanks for any idea or solution!

CPU CORE VOLTAGE-1.616 V
CPU FREEQUENCY-133MHZ
DRAM FREQUENCY-133 MHZ
If the overclock possible...what is idea or step to do it?
Thanks for any solution!

Your board isn't overclockable unless you flash it with the Cheepoman or HoneyX BIOS, but with PC133 RAM, you're not likely to overclock much beyond 142MHz anyway...that would put the CPU speed at 1.63GHz (11.5 x 142MHz). If you want better overall performance, add another 512MB RAM. If you want better gaming performance, upgrade the video card too.

What jam said...making a 1900+ or 2000+ out of that thing will result in slightly better benchmarks but nothing else. You won't see any real world difference but, you will likely see system instability and corrupted files.

My 2¢...

Hi Dear folks,
I am little bit scary to flash the bios, because if I flash the bios…is it going to lose all of the settings of components? Or is the bios become empty like HD?what should I do first in order to get the over clocking status?
Memories upgrade or flash the bios.
Thanks for reply again!

I don't think you understand...

If you're not comfortable with flashing the BIOS, don't do it! Because if you do it incorrectly, you'll be shopping for a new motherboard. Even if you successfully flash the BIOS & are able to overclock the CPU, you're only going to gain approx 100MHz. As Skip pointed out, it would be like going from an 1800+ to a 1900+...in other words, you wouldn't notice any difference.

However, if you double your RAM amount from 512MB to 1024MB, you will notice a difference. How much of a difference will depend on what you use your PC for. If all you do is surf the internet & write e-mails, the difference won't be all that noticeable...but if you're running programs that are already pushing the 512MB RAM to the limit, the difference will be much more noticeable.

And as I said in my other response, if better gaming is what you want, you'll need more RAM plus a new video card. Your card only has 64MB memory so it's obviously outdated. Even most low end cards have 256MB memory these days.

If you'd explain what you use your system for & what you hope to accomplish by overclocking, we'd have a better idea of what to suggest.

Hi dear folks,
Thanks for giving the best idea! AT LAST One more last question please…. But how about the CPU UPGARDE? Is it really big cost rather than purchasing the new MOBO?
The mobo manual says the following processors are currently supported:
Athlon Xp: up to 2600+, FSB: 200 MHz, 266 MHz

How about answering my question - what do you use your computer for?

You may wanna consider starting from scratch...new board, CPU, RAM, video card, & PSU.

Yes I agree with Jam, that setup is way past it sell-by-date and cheaper to buy a new PC or undertake a major upgrade.

In the UK a base unit with CDRW, 512MB Mem, 40GBHDD and XP would sell for around £75.00, for not much more money could buy an AM2 MoBo, Sempron and DDR2 Memory...

Apparently English isn't your primary language?

If all you use your computer for is researching information on the internet, don't overclock it. Just leave it the way it is. Having a stable system is more important than a slight speed increase.

Jam said it all,

and if I can put it in clearer terms:

If you *don't* use the PC for gaming,
if you *don't* use the PC of media editing (toying around with audio and video files),
if you *don't* use your PC for video capture (you know, record TV programs from your TV tuner)
if you *don't* fancy running Vista on it

then you dont really need a upgrade, and you dont have to worry about overclocking as well.
Stick with what you have. And save up the money for something else :)

Kailas has fought for years to make old machines work under very harsh environmental and economic conditions...wasn't long ago that a pc like yours would have made his day.

Sorry to tell Kailas; good to see you. I hope school is progressing nicely.
