Hi everyone. Just a quick question:
I have a ASRock K7S8X motherboard and a Athlon XP 2200+ CPU. When i found out I can manually set the FSB i was very happy! It is currently at 133mhz. My CPU stays around 52C with the sides on. So how much can I overclock it? Would taking it to 150mhz do much damage? It is currently at 13.5 X 133mhz wich equals my 1800mhz. With 13.5 X 150 mhz I would get a wopping 2025mhz! Over the 2ghz mark which is what I want! Would I need a better heatsink in order to do this?
Thanks for all your help.
Josh.

if youre using the stock fan and heatsink and plan to seriously overclock, then yes, a new hsf is definitely recommended, like the volcano 11+ or a thermalright SLK-800A with a vantec stealth (my setup :D).. my temps are about 43 idle and under 50 under load and i have my 2200 oc'd to 1.92Ghz .. crappy mobo.. you need to experiment with your multiplier and fsb settings a little bit at a time until the system becomes unstable, then downclock. thats probably the safest way to go about it. you can definitely hit some high speeds with this chip with the proper setup. good luck.

my xp 2000 t/b sits happily at 45'c with the fsb at 1666mhz(333 effective). cant go higher at moment cos of cheap ram and standard hsf, which is soon to be changed.

I have my XP 2000+ running at 2080mhz. I still run a stock cpu fan on it and it sits at 46c all day. Before putting a new graphic card in it it sat in the 30c. I have no probs with with setup it is very stable.
XP 2000+@2080mhz
512 3200 DDR
GF Ti 200

I have an AMD 2000 with a stock fan and no overclocking n my temps at 50 C idle...was up with that??? How'd u get urs to be so much cooler?

Josh. "Most" CPU's are created with a 10% threshold scaling both ways. Which means, technically, if you increase your CPU speed by 10%, your not overclocking (provided your CPU is one of the CPU's with this threshold).
Increase your total Mhz by 5% each boot and evaluate the status. Be sure to have software enabled to detect the tempature of your processor. The safe speed you can aquire is
A, your computer is not crashing and.*B, the temp is not esculating.
If the tempature is increasing, try to a get better heatsynk and CPU fans. Be sure to use the heatsync cream between the heatsync and the processor. Also, buy chassy fans to increase the air current in your computer.
If the tempature is still increasing, then reduce the speed until it no longer does.
Once the tempature is stablized, that's the safe limit.
If you overclock the CPU every 5% and evaulate the status carefully, you can aquire your own safe limit.
I have a expensive liquid cooler in my system. 6 chassy fans, 2 drive mount fans, and 2 expansion fan. I'm running a Intel P4. My overclock is about 25%. (-10%)
I have a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro AGP 128.
I have both my core and memory overclocked 55Mhz faster. Without overclocking, FFXI Bench2 runs a score of 3500. With overclocking, I get a score of about 4600.Without the cooling, my tempature increases about 15 degrees a minute. I hold a tempature of about 51 degrees.
Cooling was the key.

A buddy of mine has a AMD XP 2200+ running at over 2G's and only 40C. I have a XP 2000+ running at the stock 1.67G and it's running 50C also. Why so warm??? It's the stock fan. The fan shows a consistent speed in the BIOS. I'm beginning to thing the guys who sold me the darn thing didn't take the tape backing off the CPU fan (where it meets the CPU). I believe failure to do so means bad continuity; poor heat transfer. Just a hunch. I'll figure it out as soon as I find out how to remove the fan without damaging it. Anybody know how to remove these things...? I'm used to Pentium's. I seen the two clips and flipped those over, but the darn thing won't come off still.

im having problems with the FSB settings
the default is 100 Mhz
when i change that value the system f---Z up and i have to reset the BIOS
do i have to change the CPU coltage?
now its at 1.62Vmainboard: EPoX 8rda3g nForce 400 Ultra
Mem: 256 DDR 400 Dual channel
Video: GeForce FX 5200 128 DDR
CPU: Athlon XP 2200+im clocking the CPU up to 2.11 Ghz (2600+) btw and the system is really stable
with a standat FAN the tem is around 40 C clocked or not
the fan goes at around 3200rpm
