Hello u all,

I have a AMD XP 1800+ (ofcourse running @ 1533MHz) with an MSI K7T266 Pro2. In the bios I can easily change the FSB frequency just taking staps of 1 MHz.. But the highest I can go is 1700 MHz, and that is at FSB of 140MHz... why can't I go any higher? In the bios I can go as high as 164 MHz but still when I boot 1700Mhz pops up!
I don't know if my CPU fan kan keep it cool enough, but I tried the thing form my earlier post today and that really did my temps drop...

Greetz,
Raj

No I really don't know...

In windows, the system tells me I have an Athlon running at 1.61 Ghz but when I boot there is prompted that the cpu is running at 1700Mhz, Is this some sort of protection from AMD?

Greetz,
Jan

i have a friend who has his XP 1.6 at 2.4 GHz. Ur m-board has to support the fbs/multiplier. AGP/PCI also have to do the same.

www.overclockersclub.com i think can help.

You might need to unlock the Athlon chip. There are kits for doing it all over the internet.

If you're not changing the multiplier then the FSB must be at 148 x 11.5(default) setting for the 1800+, and not 140. This would give you 1702 Mhz.

You may not be able to go higher because your video card or memory may be unstable at that kind of FSB speed. I have an 1800 XP chip overclocked to 12.5 x 139 FSB for a speed of 1738.

You will need to unlock the multiplier if you want to go higher than present while lowering your FSB so that everything else is more stable.
