Hi all,

I just wondered what would be a safe speed to run an Athlon 2400+ on an abit nf7-s. Currently running at 2ghz, and I have 512 PC3200 RAM as far as I know :-)

Thanks for any help

that is a nice cpu to overclock we i think so anyways

i used to have one on a budget ecs bord
i was running is a 2.2 for long periods of time you could probly get it to 2.4 if you raised the cpu coltage and kept an eye on the temp bye the way you cpu it a theroubred b

hope that helps homie

Well I have a Sempron 2400+ and an Abit NF7-S2 board and I have managed to overclock from 1.67GHZ to 2.1GHZ stable. I would assume that a safe speed would be as high as you can go while still stable! Also, if your temps are cool (50-55C full CPU load) you are set to go.
I would think that you can get that CPU to at LEAST 2.2GHZ easily...just a guess though.

Thanks for the input ppl :-)

WHen you say temps 50-55 full load; my temperatures vary very little from 53, whether its idle or full load, it doesnt seem to change that much :-)

Also, what is the maximun temperature of the CPU that I should get before deciding to lower it again?

Pigeon, your temps stay around the 50C mark when idle as well? If so, that may be a cause for concern; for the Athlon processors, idle temps should be anywhere between (depending on cooling) 35C-45C.(maybe even 30C-45C)

As far as the max temp of the cpu, I use 55 as a general guideline with my Sempron. The CPU may reach 55 for a "quick second" but normally peaks at 50-52.5C, so I reach for a max high of 49-50C. That would most likely serve your CPU well also.

BTW..how many volts are you giving your processor? My NF7-S2 is at 1.85Vcore)

My Hardware monitor claims that it is running a CPU voltage of 1.65v. Should this be changed?

Thanks for any help; I would also like to point out that I dont want to fry anything for now :-)

I just went into standby mode for a few mins, returned, and my monitor was displaying completely different temps, so I dont think they are much to go by :/

Have a look at the image

I used to have the 2400+ on an ECS k7s5a board. I did the pin mod to get the 1.85v and flashed the bios for the oc'ing. When I was done, I was at 2.25 stable.
