Hi. I just did a bit of a upgrade and figured I overclock my chip a little.

Heres some stats...

AMD 2100xp , Asus a7s-333 board , 2 sticks of kingston PC 3200 (400mz) ram.

In The Bios I can't seam to change the muiltplyer its at 13.0 and any changes I make over that the computer doesn't get pasted the bios boot. SO I tryed changing the CPU feq. It was at 133/33 and the chip was running around 1733mhz I changed that to 140/35 and now its around 1818mhz.

Is this a good idea , can I push it anymore? I haven't played around with this stuff for awhile..

Thanks

More than likely, your CPU is locked so you will be unable to change the multiplier. One thing that is extremely important with a socket A system is that the CPU/RAM frequency ratio MUST be kept at 1:1...anything else will severely degrade the performance. Another thing to watch is the PCI freq...it should not be allowed to exceed 38MHz. Are you able to increase the CPU voltage in the BIOS?

I changed the ratio to 1:1 , It was on auto before.

My CPU voltage is at 1.76 and I can't change it.

Any idea what kind of temp is to high for this CPU to run at. Its currently at 52C with a normal load.

If the CPU runs at 1.76v by default, you probably have a Palomino & they tend to run warmer than the Tbreds. What is your system temp?

Ok some more info for ya.

Seams to run around 54C/129F for the CPU at normal/simple computing, Azaures , some firefox stuff, msn being used.

If its not in use at all with normal background applications running it jumps from 51C to 54C

Under heavyer use, Un Zipping , N64 Emulators runnning , it goes up to around 55-56C .

This is with the Muiltplayer locked at 13.0x , and freq at 140/35 mhz.

I tryed upping it to 37mhz and the computer started up fine , but then rebooted on its own two times for no reason. so I put it back to 35mhz. Idle temp at these setting was more like 55C. 56C with a simple load.

I think I am going to keep it running at the current settings of 140/35mhz , my little CPU speed tester thing say that gives me 1820mhz CPU speed.

Think this is a good setup , should I push it more or less? I am assuming the CPU will not be over 60C ever. Is this safe?

Thanks for any input

T-boy
