Hey guys,

Ive had my Geforce 6800 LE by PNY (i believe) overclocked for a while now.

I just got into overclocking my actualy CPU also and then ran into some problems which seemed to lead to the graphics card oddly enough.

So I updated my drivers and then I found out I could overclock my GFX card a lot more than before (well not the core clock, but memory would overclock past 380 when before I couldnt go past 310) but then when I went back to run dxdiag 3d tests I would get stuck on of the Direct3d tests, i would see lines on the screen for a second and then it would go really slow before going and rarely could I go all the way through all the tests without turning off my computer manually and rebooting.

If I did get through or canceled the test when i went back to overclock my video card ( you have to test it before applying the settings), whenever i tested it it would fail, even well below original specs and I would have to restart and it would go high again.

Any idea on this guys? Temperature on the card ranges 55-58 C, whats considered safe (below 60-70?)

Also why could I still be failing these dxdiag tests, could it be my CPU being overclocked itself, or does it have to be the graphics card? I know theres problem a lot of different solutions here, just trying to get an idea.

On a sidenote when doing the Direct3d test and i get the 3d cube spinning with DirectX on it, it spins REALLY fast, its always been like this, i think once i got it to spin normally but cant rememebr how...?

Just an update, im sorry im typing so much but anyway on the dxdiag Direct3d Test, I just ran it again,

it fails on the second tests, locks up near the end after seeing colored lines across the screen (like video card problems.. artifacts?) and then blue screen leading to:

nv4_dis or something like that which im sure stands for nvidia display or the like.. any ideas?

Don't bother overclocking that card. It's not bottlenecked by clock speed, but by the fact that it's a crippled piece of crap. You won't see any performance benefit out of raising the MHz on that card.

I wish my lawn was emo so it would cut itself.

AdamNelson (response 2) might have sounded a little...hmm...brutally frank :D ; but what he says is more or less true -

The 6800LE has 8 pixel shaders and 4 vertex shaders; Compare this to the 12 pixel and 5 vertex that the 6800 has. The 6800GT has 16 and 6 respectively.

Raising the clock speed cannot make up for the lesser number of processors on the card. The memory used is a DDR (AFAIK) and makes for a relatively less effective overclocker. The reference clocks for your 6800LE are 300MHz for the core and 700MHz for the memory. Even if you get a 10% gain on the clock, you gain 30Mhz - you will barely notice a gain especially given the fact that your bottleneck will be the reduced number of pixel and vertex shaders.

Sorry, but thats how it is !

Well my card was a great price and has a pretty good heatsink and fan from the manufacturer.

I get it to at least 380mhz core, 800+ memory, is it still not worth overclocking it, i dont know, anyone who has overclocked this and seen a difference if theyve tried it stock specs?

I once had the same card (got it for a wicked deal) though Leadtek prefers to call it WinFast A400 TDH. But I gotta tell ya, don't let the "6800" pseudonym fool you, the card is more of a 6600 than it is closer to a true 6800. As said above, overclocking it also won't help hardly at all & to make matters worse - it is a poor overclocker.

I was lucky to have mine upgraded to a Vanilla 6800 because of some other issue that I had with the card & the plain 6800 has been running at a conservative 385MHz/885MHz (DDR 1770MHz) - Core/Memory speed & it also fully unlocked - 16 pixel shaders & 6 vertex shaders. The only unusual characteristic of my 6800 even though it is 256-bit card is that it features only 128MB of VRAM.

Ive read a little more into unlocking pixel piping and whatnot and ive gotten the card up to a stable 12p 5v but once i start overclocking problems start so I guess ill keep clocks the same and the pixel and vertex shaders unlocked, best way to do things right?

I needed a new AGP card to replace my FX5600.
So I bought a MSI6800LE for £50.

I also managed to unlock ALL pipes and shaders :~) so now have 16/6.

I've not even tried to oc it yet.

It's in my spare pc and is a huge improvement from the FX5600.

Im asking this because I had a dream about it even though its funny..

I had a dream that if I didnt overclock my CPU i could overclock my video card more, was it just a dream or did is this true?
