CPU/Ram: Celeron/160MB RAM

Comment:

I have a Celeron 433 which is currently running at 66MHz. I have AMI BIOS and when you change the cpu speed it never works.

I have a jumper to set it at 100Mhz.
Is it possible to run a Celeron 433 at that clock rate?

Your CPU's multiplier is locked at 6.5x, so increasing the FSB from 66 to 100MHz, would put the speed at 650MHz....that's a 50% overclock. Most CPUs aren't capable of that. You may be able to pull it off but you would probably have to increase the CPU voltage (vcore). You'd also need to be running PC100 RAM...PC66 won't tolerate 100MHz.

are 66mhz and 100mhz the only availible FSB settings? maybe something in-between. if not, make sure you have a good HSF and thermal paste and try bumping up the volatge by .1 or .2 then try 100mhz FSB. but you would need PC100 SDRAM. try eBay, the stuff goes for nickels and dimes on there. get enough for 256mb of RAM, that will help performance as well.

As you can see, all Intel 0.25 nm CPU maxed out at 600Mhz... And the Pentium III Katmai require 2.05v instead of 2.00v compared to 550Mhz... The celeron series maxed out at 533Mhz.. The chance for you to overclock from 433Mhz to 650Mhz is almost impossible w/o sufficent amount of cooling and vcore / I/O voltage adjustment...

66x6.5 = 433Mhz Stock
75x6.5 = 487.5Mhz Possible
83x6.5 = 539.5Mhz Nearly impossible due to AGP @ 83Mhz, PCI @ 41.5Mhz...
100x6.5 = 650Mhz.. Slim to none w/o vcore adjustment and high performance cooler...

just get a better CPU. you could buy one on eBay for less then $20 that would be the max of your mobo like a P3 500mhz or 550mhz (they made 600mhz but they are extremely rare) and that would yeild more performance boost then an overclocked 66mhz FSB celly. an overclocked celleron is still a celeron (meaning it is still a cheap, low-cache, low-performance CPU)

Those prices are way too high street...

That said, I'd personally settle for 75x6.5 and just call it good.
