Hello everyone,
I'm trying to overclock my athlon xp 1.4 Ghz machine but in the bios I am not allowed to modify any voltage settings or the multiplier settings under the cpu PnP setup page. They seem to be Read-Only. (The mutiplier is at 10.5x and Vcore 1.750v right now) What can I do or can I change these settings somehow just to give my cpu a little more punch. By default my fsb is @133Mhz and the cpu @1.39Ghz. It is a ECS M830LR motherboard and AMI ver. 07.00T bios, the chipset is a SiS735. If anyone can help I would apprieciate your time! Oh, I've dL'd a few roms to upgrade my bios but I'm if'y about flashing my bios and installing the wrong one. Mabye someone could tell me what I need. Thanks so much!!

You should have a jumper on your mother board and to be able to set those setting you will have to move it to where its on the jumper-free.

Unless you're CPU is unlocked, changing the multiplier will have no effect. Also, some boards have autodetect voltage only.

I believe your board is a PC Chips M830LR, which is the same as ECS K7S5A. Do a search for the Cheepoman BIOS for overclocking...make sure it's compatible with your board before you flash to it...it's designed for the ECS K7S5A, but it should work for the PC Chips version as well.

Yes it is a PC Chips M830LR board. Are u sure that these two boards are the same; M830LR & ECS K7S5A? How would I tell if my cpu is locked/unlocked? Probaly locked cause I can't modify anything! Also my motherboard doesn't have a jumper of anykind
to edit bios settings. Only the one to clear cmos.

Under my video card settings, which are overclockable, the core clock frequency is at 175Mhz and the memory clock frequency at 166Mhz. Is this core clock freq the same as the systems bios reading of Vcore 1.75V? The card is the GEFORCE 2 MX/400 64Mb Ram.

The idea to unlocking an athlon xp is very straight foward, however doing it is another story. You have to connect the the little golden L1 dots with some kind of conductive materia(I did mine with a pencil), making sure that you don't cross any lines. They also sell an xp unlocking kit for 11 bucks plus shipping and you can do multiple processors with it.

I wouldn't bother unlocking the CPU as the BIOS will not have any option to let you change it.

You'll just have up the FSB by using CPUCool/SoftFSB in Windows. I don't expect you'll overclock by much though, if at all.

All I got out of this XP1600 on a PC Chips M810 was 142 MHz FSB * the 10.5 multipler = 1491 MHz. A whole 97 MHz OC!!! Superb.

Ok, I flashed my bios with the cheepoman 1129f rom. It seems to work just fine with my board (Pc Chips M830LR). This bios has got alot more options to play with! My question is what temperature should I definetly want to stay under for stable operation of the Athlon XP1600? No more than 60°c right? It's only clocked at 1.45Ghz right now cause I just did it and started windows to check it out. Is SiSandra a pretty reliable source with the info it displays? Thanks again for any input!

I forgot, another question. In the bios there is a new setting for IO/APIC. Either enabled or disabled. What is this feature and what should I set it to? Thanks

I just did the exact same thing, after reading this and realizing I have the same setup. I'm at 1590Mhz right now, not sure I should be tho Sandra reports less than 50 degrees (C). I do have a monster Vulcano 7 fan, tho. For what noise it makes it better cool this thing properly :)
