When I use ati tool it finds artifacts at core 548

but in 3d mark 03 I cannot find any artifacts on the back of the turtle, on the water, or cracks in the texture ect

Usually you do not want to mess with the timing for the video RAM, doing so will cause artifacts on the screen. As far as your overclock goes, 548/694 is already a good overclock given default is 300/500. If you want to push it further, then you will need to do a vmod to increase the voltage apply into the GPU and VRAM... Usually mild artifacts show up in some game or benchmarks but not all. So you might want to check it for all the games you play to ensure the card is stable. When you overclock your VRAM, check for the RAM timing lable on the VRAM itself. It will be xxxxxxxx-4 or xxxxxxxx-5. If your RAM is -33 or 3.3ns, using 1000 / 3.3 = 333Mhz, then multiply that by 2 to get 666Mhz max therotical frequency for the memory. In some cases, you can get higher than the max but not very far.
