I have a DG965 mobo and e6300 core 2 duo. with 2 gb of kingston desktop pc2-5300 ddr 667. I was wondering if it's possible to over clock my evga 8800 gts 320mb Superclocked video card? If so whats the easiest safest way to do it?
no i havnt got it yet. i just ordered it. was just wondering if you could. and yeah i know i made a mistake in buying my ram. could of got 2gb g skill pc 6400 for 200 cad. and is this safe to do? i just built this thing so i dont want to mess it up.
I'm an overclocker myself but I don't understand why you'd need to overclock what is currently one of the fastest video cards available? If anything, you should overclock your CPU. The DDR2-667 RAM won't be a problem because you don't have a good board for overclocking, but you should be able to get another 30% out of the CPU...that is well within the range of your RAM.
Is it safe? Overclocking always has some risk involved, but if you do it sensibly, you should have no problems.
Go back to response # 2 & click on the link I supplied...all the info you need to know about overclocking your board is there, complete with screenshots
I have my 8800GTS superclocked additonaly overclocked with the gpu at 610mhz and the ram at 1030 mhz running very stable. Ive had the gpu up to 690mhz before it crashed, incredible card. GPU temps on this card are safe to about 95c. I use ATI tool 2.6 to overclock. I also have a Koolance cooling system so my temps are WAY below what they were with a stock clock and stock heatsink (durring a game they never go above 57c). Heres a great link if you want to overclock this card, this page has links on it to all the software you will need to test it, and afterwords if you want to permenantly write the settings to bios, the software to do it complete with throuogh instructions.
