The 6600 uses plain DDR RAM while the 6600GT uses GDDR3 RAM. The default clock settings depends on whether the cards are AGP or PCI-e. These are the PCI-e settings:

stock 6600 = 300MHz/275MHz (DDR550)

stock 6600GT = 500MHz/500MHz (DDR1000)

How much did you overclock your 6600?

i don't own any of the cards, i was looking forward to upgrade my celeron pc. refer to my posting on "general hardware" :

http://www.computing.net/hardware/w...

there isn't any used 6600gt listed on my local online marketplace website (http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/marketplace/index.php) currently, and there is a 6600 256mb listed, so i was just thinking if i should get that.

thanks.

Have you tried the new monitor with your 9550 yet?

Like I said in the other post, if you want a better gaming experience, you need a better video card.

Did you look into the power supply specs like I suggested? Performance AGP video cards need power...more than the AGP slot can supply. That's why the aux plug-in is necessary. If your PSU isn't up to the task, it will have to be upgraded along with the video card.

The 6600 that you listed is better than the 9550, but it's still not a great card...plus it's used & obviously had a fan problem (overheated?). 70 SGD is roughly 45 USD & $45 isn't mush to be spending on a card, especially for gaming. I suggest you increase your budget for a card & find a better place to shop for one.

yup, and there isn't any different in term of performance and i think i would better off getting a more powerful card since i upgraded to a 22 inch lcd.

As you know, i've just spent 399SGD(266USD) on that monitor and now i really don't have much left, so the best option is to get a used card to pair it with.

"Did you look into the power supply specs like I suggested?"???

the power supply that i bought 2 weeks ago cost around 16USD(25SGD). i know its a cheapo, but i saw from the sticker on the power supply stating 24A on the +12V. will that be sufficient? if not, i'd have to hold back till next month before i could lay my hands on a TRUE power supply.

NOTE : i don't know much about power supply, but i've since people here always mentioning the importance of the figure under +12V.

And, as for the video card, considering a new piece of AGP card costing a lot more then its PCIE counterpart, i think i'll opt for a used one. so, do you think i should wait for a seller for 6600GT or maybe 800GTO? i really don't wanna spend anything more then what the cpu is capable to handle. beside the 2 cards i mentioned, is there any other option that would best fit a 3.4ghz celeron?

thanks
