I have an HP dv9640us notebook. I am getting trashed in COD4 multiplayer due to lag. Everything is ok except recommended process speed. Are there any overclock/upgrade options for this notebook?

Nope you can't overclock a laptop. Plus it would defeat the prupose of a laptop.

Upgrading your processor wouldn't hurt to an Intel Core 2 Duo T7xxx series

But you are pretty much stuck with your 8600M since it's intergrated the best you can do is lower the resolution of your screen and put the game settings on low.

It's not worth the price. No matter how fast your processor will be your igp will always end up bottlenecking it. So if you get a cpu that cost say 300 it's not going to be any diff then a cpu that cost 200 in terms of helping your games out. A moderate cpu upgrade should help without wasting a lot of money on a very fast cpu.

This is a really good deal, but this is the most I would spend.

Thanks for the input. You a re right about the price - nearer $200 the more likely I am to do it. I have changed out ram, but never cpu. Is it a plug in on this setup?

Good news is if you do upgrade your processor you can always get some money back on your old processor by selling it on ebay or craigs list.

It's a standard socket cpu change like how you would upgrade a desktop cpu if that is what you are asking.

Also you may need some artic silver 5 thermal grease compond for the cpu if you decide to upgrade the processor.
