Comment:

I've purchased a Asus P5Q Deluxe mobo and a Core 2 Duo E8400 rated at 3Ghz with a 1333Mhz FSB. The mobo manual says the mobo can be overclocked to 1600 FSB and DDR2 PC1200 dual channel memory can be used. The little I understand about OCing tells me I can use 800MHz memory with a 1600 FSB, but 1200? Doesn't that mean the memory is running at 600Mhz? or does it mean it's really running at 300Mhz x 2 because it is dual channel? Also, where do you find DDR2 PC1200 memory? I haven't seen it in computer stores. Suggestions, recommendations welcome. Thank you.

For optimal performance, the CPU & RAM should run at the same frequency.

1333MHz FSB runs at 333MHz, DR2-667 runs at 333MHz.

1600MHz FSB runs at 400MHz, DDR2-800 runs at 400MHz.

DDR2-1200 runs at 600MHz. It's available if you feel you need it:

jam,
Can you explain how DDR2 1200 would run on a system that only can run a 1600Mhz FSB? According to your earlier posts, this would mean the processor is running at 400Mhz nd the memory is running at 600Mhz. The processor and memory wouldn't be in sync, right? Why would someone wnat to do that? We're not all speed demons! And moreover, we're not bent on burning our systems out!

I think you'll find that you can actually push your FSB beyond 400MHz, ASUS will only guarantee that it will function up to that point. There are quite a few extreme overclockers who push their FSB's up to and beyond 600MHz. Simply put, unless you plan on pushing your FSB that much, you wouldn't buy DDR2-1200 in the first place.

I didn't think there were any boards capable of running the FSB at 2400MHz (600MHz frequency), but I just found this:
