I have an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ Processor. I want to overclock this CPU. Here are my bios selections.
System Performance : Normal, Fast, Turbo

CPU Frequency Mode : Auto, Manual(with frequency 1mhz stepping from 0 to 255 with also another selection to make CPU to PCI Divider : /3, /4, /5, or /6)100mhz 120mhz 133mhz 140mhz 150mhz 166mhz 200mhz

DRAM Clock : 100mhz, 133mhz, 166mhz, 200mhz or by SPD.

CPU Ratio select : Ranges from auto to 5x all the way through 18x

CPU Voltage select : From 1.475v through 1.850v

What are the best settings for the processor that i have?

Well Corey...I too have an XP 2000+. Without unlocking the multiplier I got it up to 1.75 GHz. (140x12.5)

Assuming you have a 2000+ Tbred (not a Palomino), try these for starters:

CPU Frequency Mode: 166mhz (PCI divider /5)

CPU Ratio select: 10.0x

DRAM Clock: 166mhz for PC2700 - set RAM voltage (VDIMM) to 2.7v

CPU Voltage select: 1.65v

I have a palomino CPU. I have tried the settings but every time i try to set the settings I think its not working very well. I always have to go in and take the jumper off the bios to reset the bios. I did in fact look harder at the mobo and i did find a red jumper that was connecting to together and the name of the jumper setting was "ABR" Maybe anti burn regulator. I have a Soyo Dragon kt400 Ultra Black edition MoBO. Would the settings change that much if its not a throughbred to a palonimo?

If you have a Palomino, the multipliers are locked...unless you go thru the necessary steps to unlock them, changing the multiplier in your BIOS should have no effect. Let me change the recommendations & see is these will work for you...

CPU Frequency Mode: 150mhz (PCI divider /4)

CPU Ratio select: Auto or 12.5x

DRAM Clock: 150mhz (same as FSB)

CPU Voltage select: 1.75v

With these settings, your CPU speed will be 1875mhz...about a 12.5% overclock. If it's unstable, try raising your CPU voltage to 1.80v...maybe even 1.85v.

If it's a Palomino, the multiplier is locked. I had the same problem with my 2000+, you can only change the FSB otherwise your PC will not boot.

My motherboard has a jumper for changing the FSB frequency, and I must do this before I overclock, otherwise it doesn't work.

See if you have a jumper on your mobo for switching to 166 FSB, once you've changed that, you can start upping the FSB notch by notch.

I think Jam once mentioned that there may be a fix for LOWERING the multiplier of a 2000+, but not raising it.

Ok i'm trying those changes right now. Is it that hard of a process to get the multipliers unlocked? If you could tell me of a web page to learn all of this on my own that would be great.. But i do have to say 'THANK YOU' very much for helping me. Your help and knowledge is much appreciated.

Forgot about the System Performance settings:

Normal - default - conservative, but most stable
Fast - self explanitory?
Turbo - fastest - but possibly unstable

Start with the "normal" setting & get the CPU clocking figured out, then try "fast" & "turbo"...see if it helps, or just makes your system unstable

I don't think i can do anything to this MoBo. The only ddram settings i hvae on this mobo are 100mhz 133mhz 166mhz and 200mhz or By spd In which case I don't think i can do any overclocking until something is done to my mobo. I do see a jumper on my mobo that says "ABR" Its not black like normal jumpers its red. Would this be the jumper? Ive read through the manual for the jumpers but can't find them. Unless its the fine print... "Do anything with overclocking and voids warrenty" But i don't see anything. The link to my Mobo is this

No, that's the CMOS clear jumper, so unless you want to reset defaults in your BIOS, leave it alone.

Ive looked at the manuel several times. Don't know if i'm missing anything. But the main bios jumper that i use to reset the bios with is White. And this jumper is for "ABR" My board has an anit burn regulator on it and i think thats why its in red. I'm just affraid to take that jumper off I guess thats just a safty percausion that my board offers. But i'm still toying with it a little.

Dude, ffs, get that jumper out of your head!

ABR stands for Automatic Bios Recovery.

It will do nothing except reset your BIOS defaults.

Manual is on it's way.........

Right, somewhere in your BIOS you have a "CPU Frequency Mode" option, you need to set that to manual before you can even think of overclocking.
