The problem is that OCing the cpu will gain you near to nothing at gaming. I OCed my Athlon64 3000+ to 2700MHz which is 50% OC but with 3DMark 05 I got only 3% more points. I have a 6600GT myself.
The problem is that a 3000+ is fast enough for the actual games and the rest is done by the graphic card. For example I tested a 6800GT with the same benchmark and got nearly double the points!
