i would like to learn to overclock by using step by step instructions i have a pentium 3 at 596 mhz and 384 mb of ram(3 sticks of 128) the mother bord is an intel, anything else just ask, oh and the cpu is slot 1 type

I'm guessing that your CPU is a 600Mhz that's slightly underclocked. Do you have PC100 or PC133 RAM? Do you know the model number of your motherboard?
If you're asking about a Gateway system, you're not gonna be able to overclock thru the BIOS...you'll have to use the software approach. And that means your results will be very limited. Try ClockGen:
