Anyone know if there is any benchmarks that include the Opteron X2 with the Core 2 Duo?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OC 2.7ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 7900GT
SATA II 2x 200gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

That would be redundant - Opterons are meant to be linked together for multi-processor operation, primarily in server oriented environments, But notwithstanding, the performance of an Opteron 285 @ $1000.00+ (for example) is nearly identical to what is attainable on the workstation FX-60 chip.

All you need to do is compare the performance of an FX-60 chip against the Conroe ;-(

Well I didn't know for sure considering the Opteron 64 socket 939 has some preformance advantages over the Athlon 64 product.

As in the opterons do have preformance diff in areas over the Athlons.

The Opterons are just more carfully manufactured to make sure they are 100% stable for major corperate companies which need them in there servers & workstations.

Curenty the Conroe clock for clock is a lot faster then anything AMD has to offer right now. Though in pric/performance, the Dual Core Athlon 64's are untouchable, and an amazing buy. Yes, I just bought the X2 4400+ for $220 in the box brand new.

Now where AMD is still very strong is a 4 way & above configuration & the memory bandwidth access time or something of that matter.

Remember that we are comparing AMD's 2003 technology which is still extremely innovative against Intel's new 2006 technology.

So, It is fair to say that Intel takes the crown on this short lived round. Until AMD releases there 65nm Dual Core CPU's based on the K8L design coming out in Q4 2006 to Q1 2007.

AMD's take over of ATI was also probably te best thing AMD has ever done period. Now we can expect solid chipset platforms & CPU/GPU being integrated together on one PCB for afordability & much faster performance. At the same time giving you several PCI-E x16 slots to always upgrade your graphics at a later time & such.

Bye.

Thank God. I'm so tired of Intel fans trying to act so superior to AMD fans about the Conroe core. Like this was such a decisive blow, that it makes AMD look like fools, just a bunch of horse s---. I would certainly hope Conroe would outperform AMD's offerings, it is !!!NEW!!! Comparing it to technology AMD spanked Intel with for years now it should in turn !Spank! AMD (somewhat, apparently it doesnt do THAT great of a job in getting back at AMD). Personally, I am dissapointed with Conroe... But who really cares? I'm waiting for IBM's Cell processor. Damn that thing is a number cruncher! 256 GFLOPS!?!? An o/c'ed Conroe EE gets 2.25-ish GFLOPS. Not that you could really compare a proc soley on FLOPS but DAMN! Wiki claims that performance wise, Cell should outperform everything out there at the time by anywhere from 300-1200%!!! That is the biggest jump I've ever heard of! K8L does look interesting though... but I don't know how it will compare... And sorry, I have to break it to Intel's fans... No, AMD is not going to go out of business, in reality, it may not feel that much damage, not after handing intel it's own ass for years now, and the acquisition of ATI, it will, in fact, do fine....
