Hi

I hope someone can clarify something for me.
Why is it when I had an Opteron 144 running on default settings I was getting PCMark05 score of 3400, however when I replaced the opteron with X2 4400, again at default settings, I only get a score of 1900.
Same PC, same settings (except for higher multiplier for the X2)

The system is based around the DFI NF4 Ultra-D with latest bios and 1GB of PC4000 crucial ballistic tracer ram.

I'm not sure why, but I would think you should be getting at least twice that CPU score with PCMark05.

Are you using the latest BIOS? & if you do, you might wanna check the settings in there, and see if there's something amiss.

Hi Sabertooth

I am using bios #NF4D406 which I believe is the latest.

The settings I have got are
FSB = 200
LDT/FSB = x3
CPU/FSB = x11

DRAM = 200 (1:1)
TIMINGS OF 2.5-3-3-8 (at DFI default of 1T the board would not complete POST)

I have changed the CPU Thermal throttling from the default of 50% to 75% ( I'm not sure how much of an effect this has)

What else do I need to check?

Disable it, same thing with STR (Suspend To Ram) mode.

Cpu throttling helps to set how much power the cpu will consume in the STR mode. When your system is in power saving STR mode, the BIOS, based on the % designated will run your processor at a speed that provides a corresponding % less power, for example choosing 70% setting makes the processor run at a speed that consumes 30% less power in STR state.

If you are not overclocking the X2 4400+, change the "LDT/FSB" to 5x (from x3).

Let's know if that takes care of the PCMark score.

Disabling the CPU Thermal throttle made no difference whatsoever. Changing the LDT/FSB back to 5x pushed the PCMark05 score upto 3407.
I just find it strange that when I switched from a single core opteron to a dual core athlon with No change in set up I would get such a massive dip in performance. I mean the default speed of Opteron 144 is 1.8GHz whilst default speed of the X2 4400 is 2.2Ghz therefore I would have expected better performance from the X2 and not the other way round. Or am I missing something?

Like I said I had the SAME settings for both Opteron an X2 and yet the Opteron was giving the better performance ( This is before I OC the opteron) With the opteron OC'd to 2.5 I was getting PC mark of 4200
