Hello, I'm new to overclocking, I just wonder if I can overclock my old pc's processor here are the details :-

MBoard : Intel D845PESV
Processor : Intel P4 2.8 Ghz socket 478 mPGA
FSB 533 MHz (Nothwood Brand ID 9)
RAM : 2 GB
Hard : 100 GB
OS : Win XP Pro SP3

Please tell me If I can overclock and how .And if there any other details needed please tell me.

And give me the right software to do this operation as my motherboard BIOS doesn't support this feature.

I got it and it's working well, I overclocked from 2.8 to 3 GHz as I'm scared to burn this one I still need it much, so please tell me what's the maximum safe clock that I can use with this one ?

OK, looks like I found it myself, It's 3 GHz, It's the only stable clock that I got, 3.1 GHz random restarts, 3.2 GHz mboard speaker warning. 3.0 GHz working with no prob and fine temperature.

The best way to overclock is thru the BIOS. Unfortunately, most Intel boards have very limited BIOS setting options. The problem with software overclocking is that you generally don't have the ability to control the other buses (memory, PCI, AGP, etc) or increase voltages, therefore your results will be very limited. I doubt a 200MHz increase in overall clock speed will significantly boost performance, but at least it's something.

Actually, It drops performance in Far Cry 2 game after overclocking although that game requires 3.2 GHz of speed !!

No prob, I return everything to normal then, try overclocking again. overclock the processor first then, the Video card is that right ? this will make some of it.

The general performance slightly improved after overclocking.

Thanks anyway.

It doesn't really matter, they're completely separate issues. You haven't stated which video card you have but I assume it's an AGP card? As I mentioned, increasing the FSB increases all the other buses along with it. Ideally, the PCI should be locked at 33MHz, the AGP at 66MHz & the RAM should be adjusted to maintain a 3:4 or 4:5 ratio....you generally can't do that with software. With your CPU freq at 143MHz, the AGP bus is at approx 71.5MHz & the PCI bus is at approx 35.75MHz.

right. Thanks.
This mboard isn't overclocking friendly so, I had no way but to overclock that way using ClockGen , no prob about that, however I'm happy with what I got.
Thanks again.
