ermmm, okay first's first why do ppl overclock? and how do you do it. the computer im using now till i get the new one bulit has a CPU of 2.4 but my RAM only goes at like 224MB (but its a 256 which i dont get)anyway what does it do can it improve overall performance? like my pc takes forever to load up yet i've only got like 2 programs starting up once windows is on. i got no idea with this old pc but i like to play the sims2 cept its really slow at times and drags a bit.

I don't have a clue with computers...

The reason you have about 224 mb of ram is you are sharing ram for your graphics, seems like 32mb of it are being used. YOU SHOULD get more ram as win xp needs at least 512 or more to run properly. see if you have an agp port for a video card as overclocking you cpu will see little or no improvement. Those two items will be miles faster than overclocking your cpu

Press ctr+alt+del and check on the programs you are running at the background under process... In the mean time, click on performance to look at how much available physical memory you have, that should explain the reason why your system is loading slow... As far as why you have 224mb RAM when you bought 256MB, its the integrated video card that take up 32mb from 256 and use it as it's own memory... If you really want to have a smooth game play, try a CPU with 3.2Ghz or higher and with 1GB RAM plus a decent graphic card like 6600gt / x800 above...
