I just finished my first attempt at overclocking my p4 2.8. With 1:1, I could only reach 225 FSB, I have dual hynix pc3200 ram, which I read reviews on which rated this at 225 oc'd, which is exactly what I did. So I tried 5:4, and now I can oc the cpu to 245 FSB 3.43G, and the ram moves to 196 FSB. I was hoping to hit 250 or higher, then the ram would stay at 200 FSB and my CPU at 3.5, however 250 causes a blue screen (which I can read for about a half a second before it reboots) that looks a lot like a mem crash from what I see, but I can't tell. Like I said before, the ram in a 1:1 ratio hit 225 before, so I can't see that being the problem.
Anyone know what else I could try? vcore is 1.6, I've read that raising that shouldn't be needed for around 250, but who knows, it's not an exact science is it?
System:
P4 2.8 currently at 3.43 (245 FSB)
(Zalman 7000-cu all full speed)
dual 512x2 hynix 5:4 ratio (196 FSB)
ASUS P4P800 deluxe
(used mobo NB heatsink with the thermaltake spirit fan, also added a old geforce heatsink to the SB)
Thermaltake silver butterfly 480W PSU w/active PFC
ATI AIW 9800 pro
(arctic silencer at high speed w/heatsinks on ram)
4 case fans, 2 in 2 out
Raid 0 WD 160x2 7200
SB audigy gamerPlease let me know what else I could try, if anything. I'll be attempting the video card tonight.

BTW...
2 notes that I discoved in all of this for anyone that cares:
1 - I've read that people say the readings from this mobo are lower for the CPU. I found the readings to be incredibly incorrect in general for the CPU. I installed a coolermaster aerogate II which I placed a thermal sensor under the HSF (zalman) beside the CPU, not touching). At stock speed idle the board jumped around from 23 -27 degrees, while the aerogate II reported 29 steady. once at load, the temps were about the same, however I have been watching what I do and the aerogate seems to be reporting much better than the mobo does, it's really scattered, and could lead people to substancial miscalculations.
2 - I've read that stock HSF was good enough. this might just be me, but I set mine twice and both times at stock speed I was getting abotu 31 idle, and up to 46-47 load. Once I put the zalman on, and oc'd to 245 FSB, I got 30 idle, and never moves past 38 load. I can't imagine what my load would have been with stock HSF, but I think that is a very good decrease for what I'm attempting. I feel it's worth the $ to replace this without a doubt.
