Hi
I overclocked my old AMD 1GHZ , tryed to get it to 1.2, i set the multiplier to 12x but it only came up as 1.1...weird so I upped the fsb to something silly like 140mhz, and now my computer wont POST.

Power on and it switches off after 2 seconds nothing displays or beeps. I tryed all ways of clearing cmos but no luck i even took my bios out and the power stayed on, so I know its the faulty settings in the BIOS but they wont clear !!
MOBO is a ABIT KT7A-RAID any ideas or is it a new Bios needed ?

Unplug power...remove CMOS battery & wait a few minutes...replace battery & try it...

Unless you unlocked your CPU, changing the multiplier should have had no effect. Is this the 100fsb version or the 133fsb version? If it's the 100 version, you over-overclocked...the 133 version should easily handle 140fsb

"AMD 1GHZ , tryed to get it to 1.2, i set the multiplier to 12x"

which sounds like the Athlon 1000 (10x100) as opposed to the Athlon 1000-C (7.5x133)

"so I upped the fsb to something silly like 140mhz, and now my computer wont POST."

which sounds like a 40% overclock adjustment in one step, which will fry your cpu a good percentage of the time. Overclocking is not dangerous in general, but 40% in one step, is.

i got away with 120 but then did 140 foolishly. i took the cpu out and cant see any burn marks.
Im thinkin the cpu is ok as the power stays on when I took the bios out,and cd rom etc works etc is it right to think this ?

The times I've turned on a system with a fried cpu in the socket I got power to the fans and mobo but no post beeps. The only way to be sure is to try another cpu in your mobo, or your cpu in another system.

HIYA problem solved!!!

I got a new BIOS and it booted up right away.
I was more cautious this time.
All I had to change Was the Multiplier factor to X12 NOTHING ELSE.
so my 1ghz athlon amd now runs at 1200mhz (1.2GHZ) at a same as b4 43'c no overheat at all :D the fsb is still the same as 1ghz at 100/33 didnt have to change it.

So all you have to do is change Multiplier factor to overclock voltage or fsb did not :) maybe i got lucky hehehe
it is at 1.2 because i benchmarked it and it said 1.2 cool
thanks all for your help and I have now the experience not to make foolish mistakes again hehe thanks again :)
