That's as about as good as you are going to get in it terms of running it at 2.8ghz stable. Anything past that will start making that Opteron unstabble. Unless you were using a nice liquid cooled system then maybe you can push it another 200mhz stable, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

You don't have to maintain a 1:1 ratio. There's no FSB on an AMD system, so there's nothing to stay in sync with. There's virtually no performance difference between 11 x 254MHz (RAM at 254MHz) & 13 x 215MHz (RAM at default/250MHz).

All you need to do is clock the CPU as high as possible (stably), keep the RAM reasonably close to 250MHz, keep the HTT bus reasonably close to 1000MHz. The PCI should be locked at 33MHz, the PCI-e at 100MHz, & any Spread Spectrum settings should be disabled. Cool 'n Quiet should be disabled as well. Voltages should be set manually & so should the RAM timings.

Here's a suggestion:

- CPU at 10 x 300MHz
- RAM at DDR333 (resulting speed will be 250MHz)
- HTT multi at 3x (resulting HTT bus will be 900MHz)
- increase CPU voltage as necessary to stabilize

The stepping seems to be a big factor in how high you can overclock the Opty:

Memory timing is at what you suggested. I add'D .1v to cpu but worried she is runnin hot i am on stock cooler and thus far not impressed with the coolers, Cooling.

What HSF are you using...the stock AMD Opty unit with 4 heatpipes or an aftermarket unit?

Are you sure it's installed correctly? Did you use a thermal pad or paste?

Where are you getting the temp readings from...monitoring software or the BIOS?

If that 60C reading is at idle, it's definitely too high. Even if it's a full load reading, it's a bit too high to be acceptable. 50-55C under load would be more reasonable.

Right from the Bios i use to have a tool but broke in moving. the cooler feels just warm to the touch. I made sure not to touch the top of cpu to prevent grease to effect the thermal paste Maybe i need to order some AS5 again. Did i mention this Cpu is not even 2 weeks old does that have a factor to it too?
