OS: xp home sp2
CPU/Ram: x2 4400 2 gig
Comment:

I use the asus N.O.S. (Non delay over clocking system or something like that) When I push it to the max %10 OC, my game freezes or crashes. At %108 percent I can play but get odd colors in the game. My question is, can OC the CPU cause my RAM to get bottle necked or something? When I OC I often get a "system low on virtual memory" message when I exit the game.

If you're going to overclock, do it the RIGHT way...that is, by manually tweaking the BIOS settings. You should easily be able to O/C your X2 4400+ to 2.75GHz without it breaking a sweat. That's a 25% overclock. You have a kicka$$ board with dozens of tweakable settings....it's a shame to see it go to waste. Set the 'Overclock Profile' to Manual & do it right, otherwise, just set it to Auto or Standard & leave it be. AI NOS is NOT the way to go!

Ah damn! I'm WAY to intimidated to mess around with that. Now it sounds like I have a Ferrari but can't get it past 2'nd gear!

Why? Just go read up on some basic overclocking tips online then try them out on your motherboard, you can't mess anything up that isn't fixable. I mean, if something goes wrong all you have to do is load the defualt settings back in the BIOS.

Overclocking isn't rocket science thousands of people do it. It just takes a little time, patients, and some trial and error to get it just right.

If you have common sense and some basic math skills then you can overclock.

Thanks guys, I'm on it. I have it at 2.6Ghz just now and it seems to be working. You will undoubtedly here more from me (questions) in the OC'ers forum ;-)

One question, in the BIOS should I do auto hyperthreading or set it to 5x (manually)?

you mean hypertransport? Any time you overclock you want to lower hypertransport not raise it, Lower it to 3x. Not only will you reach higher ghz speeds but also make it more stable. If you want to full explination why you you need to lower it and not a nutshell you can either wait for jam or google it. I'm too tired to explain why. :)

The HyperTransport should be kept as close to 1000MHz as possible. Generally, it's not recommended to exceed 1000MHz. If your CPU Freq is 200MHz, set the HT multi to 5x...if it's 250MHz, set it to 4x...if you plan on going higher than 250MHz, set it to 3x.

Here's a few generic tips:

- disable Cool 'N Quiet

- disable Spread Spectrum

- lock the PCI-E bus at 100MHz

- lock the PCI bus at 33MHz

- set the RAM speed to DDR333. This *should* allow you to raise the CPU Freq to about 260-270MHz w/o the RAM over-overclocking. If you plan on raising the CPU Freq higher than that, it *may* be necessary to set the RAM to DDR266.

Thanks Cobra, I was speaking about hypertransport and you need to drink more coffee ;-)

Should I enable or disable "HDD SMART Monitoring analysis"? I have no idea what it is (don't really care) I just want speed and stability.
