ok, I am gonna get my hands on a 166mhz MMX laptop, and it's overclockable. I want to overlock it at 200, or 233. What should i look out for? how hot will it get? how safe is it? I don't want much to change from 166 to 200. I dont want it to get sny hotter. Worth o\cing?

Don't expect to play any games with good graphics though...you need atleast a 6-700mhz atleast for most games that came out within the last 3-4 years.

yup, i know that. but those games are mainly shooting games, and me and shooting games dont mix. oh, another thing. Is it ok to increase the voltage of a laptop computer? I now know that mmxs dont have heat issues, but to get it at 250mhz, i'll need to increase some voltage. Is it safe or are there risks?

I think the only risk is that you can overheat it...i don't know what the max vcore you can give it is, but i think the max is around .20v .30v ex. was at 1.00v, max 1.30. but i would check around to see what other people have got to, before i went and turned it up more than .15v.

if it overheats it will freeze and you'll have to power down and perhaps reset bios. But if it way overheats, meaning you made a large jump in vcore or speed (like 10%) from the previous settings, you can fry the cpu. So go in small steps. The link in response 1 has info about voltage.

if i keep it at the same voltage and bring it up to 200mhz, would it become unstable? what program should i use to test stability? f\(for some reason Sandra won't work).
