The fx 5200 isn't worth getting. If you do get an fx make it ultra. the ti4200 beats the first two fx cards so think about a 5600 ultra or a 5800. (search google for benchmarks)

ps : ti's are older DX

the biggest difference is the dx 9 support, the fx series cards claims to have 'full 9x support' whatever that is worth to you, for all we know the game that 'require' 9x will work without 9x or the cards that don't 'support' 9x will run it fine, so it depends on how much you like to experiment, hope this helps

the high end FXs are faster, the TIs are better speed per dollar, the low end FX is a waste

so ur saying going with the older TI's, if I'm looking to get the most for my money? The FX5900's are so expensive and I don't know if I want to spend that much money on a video card. I could build a whole new computer with the money for the FX5900 Ultra. :)

What's a good company to go with? I see a lot of people with either PNY or Gainward. How o/cable are the ti4200s?

The ti4200 is so mature that as long as you are comparing apples-to-apples on features (e.g. not comparing a tv-out with a non tv-out), the price differences align closely with overclockability. The cheapest ones tend to not oc well. Then again, the ones that oc 15% beyond the average cost 20% beyond the average. So as with most computer parts your best bet is to get something cheap yet not rock bottom. The newegg refurbished page is the first place I would check for a good deal.
