Recently I've ran into an issue with my notebook (ASUS Z81SP) getting extremely hot, more specifically with the CPU. When I boot the computer up in the early day it starts out at about 48-50 degrees. As time goes on during the day, it rises to about 55 degrees. This seems normal but then every now and then regardless of how long it has been on, the temperature rises to a high of 75-85 degrees! Most activity consists of internet use, playing and burning dvds and light gaming. I can be doing the smallest thing such as just browsing a folder and the temperature will rise that high. I've only had the notebook for about 6 months now so it is still covered under warranty if there is a serious problem with my hardware. Should I get a new cooling system or does this just normally happen with power notebooks after several hours of use?
My specs are:
Pentium 4 3.0ghz cpu
2gb memory
Nvidia 6800 Go video card
Antec cooling systemThanks in advance for any assistance!

You ever try cleaning your laptop out from within with compressed air mostly around the fans and vents? Some people go as far as cleaning off the old thermal paste on their cpu and reaply new thermal paste on their cpu. Try cleaning it out first if that does the trick then you solved your problem. If it doesnt' you may have to even go as far as putting new thermal paste on your cpu.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OC 2.7ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 7900GT
SATA II 2x 200gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

you have the prescott mobile pentium 4 its going to get hott and i have a 2.8ghz pentium 4 mobile and i get the same temps as you so dont worry.
Notebooks are known for inadequate cooling but they still run so dontworry.
If your very despirate put something under the 4 legs of the lappie to get a larger air gap underneath to increase air flow or you could if wanted by a laptop cooler but some people say they work and other dont.
good luck

In this case it was actually a software issue. For some reason or another, the software that accomodates my Linksys wireless internet card was giving me trouble. After disabling the program, all is well now. Thank you for your responses.
