Ok, I was having some overheating problems with my system and recently picked up 2 of the Thermaltake Volcano 9 HSFs to take care of the issue. The problem is that now when I hook it all up, and mount it, I get no post whatsoever. I've tried all the configurations included with the HSF's but to no avail, it's still not doing anthing. Fans spin up, so the hdd's and all seems good and fine. BUT IT GOES NO FURTHER. I reinstalled the original HSF's to make sure that the CPUs are fine, and they both are, as I can boot normally, and everything is good (i just heat up really fast) up until this point, everything has been fine until these new fans so I know all my other hardware is fine...I have also checked to make sure that nothing is touching the heatinsink that shouldn't be, and that the capacitors are not broken around the CPUs etc. Please keep in mind, this is ONLY with the Volcano 9 HSF. I can switch back to the original HSF and everything is fine. Needless to say, I'm getting frustrated, and I'm out of ideas.. Here's the setup:

Enermax 430W PSU
MSI K7D Master (6501)
Dual AMD MP2000+ CPUs -|- 2 Thermaltake Volcano 9's
1GB RegisteredDDR Kingston RAM
ATI All in wonder 128
20GB WD Primary Master
80GB WD Secondary Master
52x CDROM Secondary Slave

(I have a burner etc, it's all backpack style so I'm not including it)

Please someone send some good suggestions, I'm really out on a limb here! Thanx in advance ~!JR!~

I've had that happen when the heatsink clip was so tight that it put too much pressure on the cpu and the mobo could not handle the force. In that case I switched to a weaker clip and that solved the problem. If you are daring you could test to see if this is your problem by laying the case on its side so the mobo is flat and holding the sink in place but without connecting the clip, but instead using your hand to apply a little downward pressure and see if you get a post.

Your symptoms can also occur when the mobo Fan Off Control senses too low of current draw off the 3-pin mobo fan header, however in that case you usually get an autoshutoff after 3 seconds as opposed to fans that just keep on spinning like yours are.

I had a Volcano 9 with the clip installed backwards. I was getting the same problems untill I reversed the clip and then it posted fine. Make sure yours matched the picture in the directions. http://thermaltake.com/support/installations/v9.htm

Keep a careful eye on the cpu temps till you know your heatsink is doing the job.....you cpu if started without any heatsink can reach over 700 degrees in less than 10 seconds.
