Hallo:

I'm having hard problems with my PC. It was just working fine, when it crashed. After rebooting, it entered the BIOS and showed a warning about being overclocking the CPU (whichi was not true, in fact) and thus booting in safe mode (at 100 MHz).

But after 10 seconds, it freezed. Every time I rebooted, it freezed. Finally, it doesn't boot any more. Even there is no signal in the monitor, and the drives keep on doing strange sounds.

Thinking it was a CPU problem, I bougth a new one (same AMD XP 1700+), and replaced it. No difference. My motherboard is a A7V266-E. The PC has 2 case fans, an Audigy 2, a TV card, and a 3Com Network card, so I was wondering if a 300 Wat power supply is enaugh. It's been always seeming to be giving more than expected voltage values (12,7 instead 12 V).

When I first crashed, the CPU temperature was really high (64 C, 147 F). But I've read this is under specs. Maybe the power supply is damaged, or the motherboard. Any idea?

I would appreciate any comment or suggestion. Thank you very much.

Try clearing the cmos, this is how..take the battery out of the motherboard the take out all the power leads from the board, wait 30 sec then plug everything back in. make sure you put the battery back in the same way! if that don't work buy a new board.

Thanks for the answers. I've cleared the CMOS (removing the battery and then shorting the proper jumper), but it has made no effect. Everything is the same.

The mother board user's guide describes the beeps I should be hearing during POST (in case something goes wrong), and it's strange, but now there's no beep at all. When it was working fine, there was a single beep (when the mobo logo appeared in the monitor). Now, silence and darkness.

I will try with a friend's PSU (before buying a new PSU or mobo :-).

Thanks.
