Digitimes reports that AMD will not be available until 2008.
The new K8L processors will use socket AM3 and will be compatible with both DDR2 and DDR3 memory. AMD will also apparently completely discontinue socket 939 before socket AM3 is introduced, and is expected to phase out single core processors by end of 2007.
AMD will also apparently start manufacturing 65nm socket AM2 dual core processors in Q1 2007 starting with the X2 3800+, 4200+ and 4600+. Later, the FX62 and single core Sempron's will also be moved to the 65nm process, with Sempron's also gaining DDR2-800 support.
Given that the K8L will not be available until at least Q1 2008, AMD's only logical response to Intel's upcoming Conroe is to lower prices and pursue its 4x4 (dual processor) initiative.
So according to this report for anyone that owns a socket 939 system the lifespan for this socket will still have another year and a half left before AMD completely phases the socket 939 out.
That's good news considering processors that came out for the AM2 only will make its way down to socket 939 before it's all said and done.AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OC 2.7ghz

the way pc technology is heading by the time you buy the current generation socket motherboard, it will be outdated withing a couple months after you bought it. I mean, AMD is starting to remind me of Intel now in their ongoing socket upgrades. AM2-DDR2 platform won't even see a 2 year life before its gets replaced by AM3-DDR3 platform.
