Are you using an FC-PGA to FC-PGA2 converter? If not, that is what your problem is. Even the link you provided in your initial post indicates that you need one. Just to clarify, the Tualatin based CPU's use a different pin layout than the Coppermine based CPU's, the adapter fixes this and in most cases allows the voltage to be adjusted accordingly.
Yes of course it will fit, the socket is exactly the same, it's the internal circuitry that is different. And yes, the product in the link you provided is exactly what you need.
What you found in response #9 is a Slot-1 to Socket 370 adapter...that's not what you need. And $50 is a reeediculous amount to invest in this "project" anyway. Why don't you just buy a CPU that's compatible with your board?
You can't just guess at compatibility. You have to dig up your motherboard specs.
In your other thread, the 1st response was made by you & you have a link that plainly shows that you need an adapter to be able to run the 1.4GHz CPU in your Dell. How did you think you were gonna bypass the adapter?
this is not goin to work. i will never find an adapter to upgrade this processor from 866 with out an adapter to make it worth it.
PL-370/T Adapter
This product has been discontinued. Information provided for support purposes only. i got my info from forums and that processor which I have in possession was to work after replacing the old one. not so I found out. i'll just try and sell the thing and forget about it. thanks for the info fellows. i get the picture. and Slot-1 to Socket 370 adapter..i realized it wouldn't work after i seen the video they had posted on the page.
The 2nd link in response number 12 links to the exact same converter I have and have been using for quite some time, it should work for you no problems, for a little under $15, you can't go wrong.
thanks adz929 for given me some hope. i'll check back tomorrow to see if any further info has been posted. thats the one right?
i found this but it is in hong kong.US $4.98 Shipping costs: US $9.99 Tualatin 370 CPU Celeron 3 Converter Socket http://cgi.ebay.com/Tualatin-370-CP...
this is a question i asked from the place i bought the processor. i also asked if they sell an adapter too.
I purchased this under the impression it would work. Intel® Pentium® III 1.4GHz Socket 370 512K Cache Server CPU OEM

However, you apparently didn't do any research until after you made the CPU purchase & found that it didn't work? No big deal...you only paid what, $9 + shipping? But you could have saved yourself a lot of hassle by looking into which CPUs are compatible with your motherboard ahead of time.
