I just built a new computer and i started to install windows xp and it locks up everytime..I can not get it to get past The OS install. I have removed everything except the video card, hard drive and cd-rom. this had no effect. My first guess was that i was under power but i upgraded to a 400w power supply that was recommended by AMD.I am courious if i may have done something wrong or if i am not setting it up correctly. I would appreciate any help.
AMD xp 1800+
Abit Kg7-raid mobo
1 stick of 256 DDR ram
Geforce 2 mx 400 video card
400w power supply.

I see you have RAID there is key you must push for XP to install on a RAID..unfortunately I do not know what that key is...sorry

Are your POSTIng all right and able to get into BIOS? No error beeps?
How about trying a different OS first, like Win98SE?

After playing for hours i got it to load windows xp after overclocking the cpu. for some reason it seems to run a little more stable when it is overclocked... Weird I think...But any how it still lockes up in the middle of a game or occasionaly locks up while performing some task that required alot cpu work. Can anyone tell me why it seems to work better when it is overclocked. I have an xp1800 clocked at 1633 right now and it seems to be stable with only a few lock ups. I would like to get it were it will at least play my games with out locking up. Should i continue to overclock it more to see if it helps even more..The cpu temp has not change after overclocking it...Also what is CPU Hysteresis and what is a safe level. Should it be low or high...
Thanks for any Info: Wesley

The mobo is jumperless... I change the cpu settigs from auto to user defined and boosted the fsb speed up to 142 and it seems to work alittle better. I am new at the hole overclocking thing so if there is anything else that i could change i would appreciate it... Thanks Wesley

You probably have a bad CPU. The CPU will appear to work fine until it locks up. This is a result of the L1 or L2 cache being bad. Disable the cache in the bios and try to install the OS. The system will run extremely slow with the cache disabled though. This problem is quite common in AMD Athlons and Durons.
