Sorry to disappoint but Dell's aren't designed to be overclocked. But you can try using an software program such as ClockGen to see if it works. If it does, the results will be very limited.

What would be the point? The cheapest Quad sells for about $180 & all you'd be gaining is 400MHz in overall clock speed. The extra cores won't do squat for performance unless you're running programs that are optimized for quad core CPUs.

How much RAM do you have? If you have 1GB or less, that might be the place to invest your money. But if gaming performance is what you're after, you'll need a PCI-e video card plus a new power supply that's capable of supporting it. However, if you have the "slim" Vostro, you can forget about it...the size of the case severely limits the hardware upgrades.

Ok,thanx for the info.I keep seeing posts saying quadcore is not much better than duo core at the minute. But I did have a quadcore pc,and it knocked socks off this vostro I`m using. For example,if I convert an avi video file to disc it takes my vostro 20 odd minutes. The quadcore I had could do it in around 6 minutes. And multi tasking was like lighening compared to the vostro.I only got rid of it because it was very, very noisy.lol.

Thanx for your help Jam.

Why didn't you just address the noise problem instead of downgrading to a cheap entry level Dell?

You probably only would have to replace the fan, and I am sure that the fans are a major part of it being loud, you other system. A few fans would of cost you maybe 5-10 dollars max, and you could of kept the quad core, instead of getting a Dell.
