Hi there, I recently purchased an Athlon XP 2600 (266) CPU to replace my Athlon XP 1800 (quickie upgrade). Motherboard is a Gigabyte 7VRXP (updated drivers/BIOS). Thing is though, when I start up the computer, it still shows the 1800 CPU. I looked in the BIOS settings and the only thing I see that might have something to do with it is the 'Host CPU Clock (Mhz)' under the 'Hardare and Misc Setup' menu. As of now it is set to 133. I changed it to 166 (don't know why), and it then showed a 2200 CPU. I know the my mobo supports the 2600, check both gigabyte and AMD's website. Another thing I'm thinking of is the multipliers on the board itself, could that have something to do with it? Any and all help offered would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Are you sure you have the 266FSB version? There are 3 different 2600+ CPUs (one Barton & two Tbreds) & they all run at different speeds.

333FSB Barton 1917mhz 11.5 x 166mhz

333FSB TBred 2083mhz 12.5 x 166mhz
266FSB Tbred 2133mhz 16.0 x 133mhz

The 1800+ runs at 1533mhz (11.5 x 133)...so based on the common multiplier, it would appear that you have the Barton? Unless you simply need to change the multiplier from 11.5x to 16.0x?

Download CPUZ v1.23 to confirm what core & settings you have:
