One of the teachers at my school gave me a computer to fix up, when I was taking a look at the processor to saee what speed it was, i noticed that the thermo paste was a brownish color and crusty, it is about 3 years old. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, I am new to processors that need thermo paste. (my main comuter is a 486dx-2 66) I do have a pentium 60 (w/ FPU bug) that has thermopaste on the top of it, and it is white, it is about 12 years old.

Customer: Do you have any mouse pads?

Salseman pointing: Over there.

Customer: Great!, will they be comadible with my computer.

Yes. Not so much because it was old but because you separated the heatsink from the processor.

You can get a tube at RadioShack for $1.99 that'll do you just fine.

I use 99% alcohol to clean my heatsink and cpu and apply any heatsink compound according to the instructions from the arctic silver folks:

Thanks, I get some. Radio Shack is a heck of a lot cheaper than the stuff I saw in best buy for $9.00. (Now to bug my parents to take me there. lol)
