i have a presario r3000 laptop that i suspect the processor is going out in, and i was wondering if it is possible to use any socket 478 processor in that motherboard. it has a mobile pentium 4 2.8 ghz processor with 533 fsb. i have a 2.6 478 intel processor and would like to not have to spent the 500 that hp wants for a new processor. let me know if you have any idea about this, thanx

Generally, a processor works or it doesn't...if the laptop boots & runs Windows but you're experiencing problems or slow downs, there's probably something else going on. Possibly overheating?
