Hi,i recently built an new computer system with an GIGABYTE GA-8SQ800, SiS 655 chipset mobo, Intel Pentium 4 2.40B cpu. In windows the cpu detects correctly and the cpu temp in the bios is 30C. But if I use other hardware monitoring programs such as Hardware monitor or SiSoftware Sandra (latest version). The temps reads that my mobo and cpu are overheating. CPU reads 127C. Also in 3DMark01se system info they report that I have dual Pentium 4's @ 2.40 GHz which I have only one. Also when I installed the cpu I used the thermal tape that came on the retail heatsink and fan. Also 1 more thing, could seating the cpu in the socket wrong affect on how the cpu is detected by other hardware monitoring programs.

Most software programs are off, as a rule of thumb, if the computer is not crashing and running fine, leave it. As for wrongfully seating your CPU, it's not possible, Pin 1 has to match with Pin1, or else the CPU won't install correctly, and if forced in, it simply will not work. Oh, and for the dual CPU, if in System Properties you only see one CPU listed, the OS recognizes the CPU fine.

Your CPU has burst action this could be why the software does not register it properly and as for the previous poster told you....it's impossible to install a cpu the wrong way the pins on the chip line up perfectly with the socket so it wouldnt go in unless you forced it somehow and then you would not boot up. Your motherboard comes with an app called Easy Tune 4 try installing that one should register your hardware ok. :0

Tried to install easy tune4 and when I try to run the program I get an error message something about NT. Anyways I can live with it, Thanks guys for trying to help me.
