Ok, here is my plan, I am getting a new motherboard off of www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?DEPA=1&submit=Go&description=Asus%2Cmotherboard&searchdepa=1&Order=votes) (First one) and I have no idea if it will fit into my old CPU. Its an old Compaq from about 5 years ago, serial number is 3D99CT9GP1TZ if that helps anything. Please help, I need to know!

Sorry but I couldn't find anything with that serial number and a 5 year old compaq is a bit less info to really help you.

But as it's 5 years old I really doubt it can work because 1998 was the time of Pentium2 and AMD K6. And as far as I know the socket A came a bit later.

plus you'll probably need a new case, cuz that compaq power supply will be insufficient and new mobo may not fit inside...proprietary crap
