I bout a mercury KOB 630e CFSFx socket 370 motherboard, now when i put my intel pentium 3 or celeron tualatin it wont work, it came with a cheesy gigapro. Any ideas why it wont work? I know my processor is good. Maybe a system setting? The gigapro works fine however...

It doesn't work because the motherboard is not built for Intel Processor.

Your KOB 630e CFSFx has an onboard processer. So you cant have enougher processer on there!

I have the same problem as you, KYle...

Even though the manual and Tiger Direct say it will take a celeron it seems that on the ones with (to use your term 'cheesy' to be polite) Gigapro already on it they left off jumper #3. According to the manual jumper #3 is necessary to switch the board to accept an Intel processor.

Other than the processor problem it seems that it's not a bad board. In fact it seems that the audio is quite decent and the video is acceptable for a small system although it's never going to do big time 3d gaming or anything.

I'm going to check with Kobian, the manufacturer, to see if there is any way around the processor problem. If I find anything good I'll get back to you.

As a warning to anyone that reads this!!!! Stay away from anything with a Gigapro processor!!!! It won't even decently handle the internet let alone play an MP3 with a viaual going on.

Kobian refuses to respond to my support questions concerning this board. That tells me to stay away from Kobian products!!!!

I've already returned my board and Giga (bum) pro processor to Tiger direct. They were quite helpfull and I had no problem with them on the return.

Here is a suggestion that I was tempted to do but decided not to and just returned the board and got another one... DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!!!!!!!! I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY!! Using the manual as reference locate where the jumper SHOULD be and soldier a piece of wire from one contact to the other. This SHOULD effectively 'close' the jumper and your Celeron should work. I can't be totally sure of this as Kobian refuses to answer my questions. Just remember that if you connect the wire to the wrong contact you could destroy the board. Actually, if you still have the board, it's not a really big risk as the board is pretty much useless with the 'Gigafraud' processor on it.

To anyone that reads this:

It is my opinion that ANY board with a Gigapro processor on it be avoided. Also, with the lack of help I got from Kobian, I would suggest staying away from anything that they produce and/or sell. This is just my opinion and should not be read as a fact from someone that is qualified to make such recomendations... after all, I've only been messing with, modifying, and building systems for about 25 years. What do I know?
