New Motherboard for Pentium D

Specs: Windows XP, Pentium D 820
I have a Pentium D 820 Processor of a computer which I bought in 2006, bus speed 200 MHz, rated FSB 800 MHz. The motherboard blew up and I was wondering if I could go for a Asus motherboard P5G41 T-M LX with ddr3 ram. Will the combination work or is it better to go in for a newer computer with i5 or i7? My usage is not too high. I will be using just to work on photographs not videos.

No, it does not support the CPU. The support list:
You would be throwing good money into an old tired system with little hope of getting much more use out of it and you do not know if another component like the power supply caused the motherboard damage, so it would be even more money than that alone (if you can get a board for it). Just retire it and replace it, is my advice (new purchase or fresh build from scratch).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
