ga-7a3pvm says it supports my pentium 4 3ghz, but cannot get the cpu to install, do i need a conversion board? or is there some extra pin i need to find to allign the cpu correctly

Your new board has an LGA 775 socket which means compatible CPUs have no pins. If your CPU actually has pins, it's a socket 478, which means you bought the wrong motherboard. There is no adapter. Either buy a new CPU or exchange the board.
