I'm selling my 64x2 5000+ mobo,ram,psu to a co-worker for $300.
I want to go quad by intel and I want to game so heres where I need help is matching the peices up.
I need cpu, mobo, ram, psu, gpu and an os.
I'd say budget is $1000 since I'll buy some parts now then some later.I am not concerned with sli or xfire since the 9 series cards will be out by the time I am ready. Please help me out I need itI need help I am new here.I would greatly appreciate some help since I can't find everything on google.

"I've got everything I need except for cpu, gpu, ram, mobo, psu"
So that means you have a case, an optical drive & a HDD? LOL! You're not gonna use the Gateway case, are you?
What's wrong with your current setup anyway? If it's still in it's stock form, all it needs is a decent video card & possibly a power supply upgrade.
If the CPU, board, RAM & PSU you're selling are the stock Gateway components, your co-worker must be a real sucker...he could do a LOT better for $300.
BTW, there's very little reason to go for a quad-core right now.

Foxconn X38A LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $229.99
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Dual-Core Processor - Retail $189.99
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail $46.99
EVGA 512-P3-N802-A1 GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail $289.99
Thermaltake W0106RU Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V CE, CB, TUV, FCC, UL, CUL, and BSMI certified - Retail $169.99 ($129.99 after $40.00 Mail-In Rebate)
TOTAL = $926.95
Spending someone else's money... PRICELESS!

I have a thought...since you're gonna get a video card & PSU anyway, why not try them in your Gateway? Then if you're not happy, go ahead with your cockamamy plan

Go ahead: sell your Gateway (GT5476E) machine to your co-worker for $300. It'll be a nice Xmas gift for him .... LOL

LOL, dont' Try to put in an ATX motherboard in that gateway case, because it's a micro ATX case. So if you want another motherboard in there, then you will be stuck with an micro ATX motherboard.
I'm still wondering what the hell is wrong with your current computer that you can't upgrade from that?

seriously dude buy a gpu,psu and get your game on.I have the same cpu, everything else is different but it is a good set-up.
Look in your case and see if you've got room for a new gpu.My friend had to buy a bigger case to install his 8800ultra but his case was tiny.I'd rather have a home built then a store built poop machine
