I'm having a problem with playing some videos on my computer. I tried to play back some hi-def 1080 p wmv videos and the play back was slow and choppy. It appears as if my current computer set up is too slow to handle those videos. I currently have a computer that I custom built and it has an Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 3800+ cpu, and an Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT card. Would anyone have any suggestions as to what I should upgrade to so my computer can play these? What cpu? My motherboard has socket 939. Thanks for any help.

You have a good board, good CPU, plenty of RAM, fairly decent video card...my guess is it's a software problem, possibly infection.

What kind of audio and video encoding are used? If its H.264, your cpu and video card might be a bottleneck. The largest file Ive played was a 1280x720 anime file and it took up about 35-45% CPU power just to run the file. I have the same mobo, X2 4400, & 7600GT, both of which are OC'd. My video runs smoothly now thanks to the 7600. Perhaps check some video drivers and codecs.

Thanks for helping out. I think I have this issue worked out now. It seems I've gotten it to work now whereas initially the video playback was delayed and would get hung up as if my computer couldn't process it. I thought the video wasn't playing in multiple video players of mine, but I've just discovered that it's only in the VLC video player that I'm having this problem now. If I play it in winamp now for example, it plays normally without a problem. Whenever I play these videos it takes up nearly all my cpu cycles as it almost approaches 100%. Some of these videos are 1440x1080 with 8256 kpbs bit rate.
